Per Vias Contemporary Voyage along Ancient Roman Roads.
Revisiting the landscapes along the ancient Roman roads. This photographic work, done in an impressionist style, attempts to express the blur of movement and the staccato rhythm of a landscape alternating between its pastoral origins and the signs of modern life. It is a voyage, not just between a departure point and a destination, but also between past and present.
The photographic style employed here is, as already remarked, rather impressionist, in the sense that it privileges the effects of movement, the fluidity of images and the succession of shapes and colours that unfold in front of us. The images are sometimes totally blurred, allowing one to focus more precisely on the juxtaposition of colours, shapes and textures. As a consequence, these images tend to abstraction, and never towards a documentary photographic style. The images of an impressionist landscape effectively subvert the idea of photographic realism. Finally, this work concerns our voyage through this ancient landscape, capturing the speed of the images flowing by, the speed of modern life.
